curated by the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the TemplesIn recent years, the Park has launched an ambitious project aimed at eliminating all types of barriers—both physical and sensory—to ensure that all visitors can enjoy the archaeological heritage of one of the most iconic sites in the Mediterranean. Among the most significant initiatives, walkways have been installed to make monuments like the Temple of Juno accessible, which was previously unreachable for people with reduced mobility. In the more challenging areas, wooden platforms facilitate the paths, while elevators have been automated to offer greater convenience. Additionally, the Park provides state-of-the-art electric wheelchairs, which can be reserved online free of charge—a service designed to offer freedom of movement and autonomy during the visit. Visitors with visual impairments can also enjoy a unique experience thanks to Braille information panels and tactile reproductions of iconic elements such as the Telamon of the Temple of Zeus. This attention enables a direct and sensory connection with the treasures of the Valley, making art and history accessible in a tangible and engaging way. |
Hospitality Beyond WordsAnother highlight of the project is the “VideoSegnArt” app, which offers multimedia content in Italian Sign Language (LIS). Through theatricalized videos performed by professional actors, visitors can discover the secrets of the Temples of Concordia, Juno, Hercules, and the Sensory Garden. Thanks to QR codes placed near the main monuments, access to the content is immediate, and the app is available for free download on both Apple and Android devices. At the heart of these initiatives lies the desire to convey the universal value of cultural heritage, transforming the Valley of the Temples into a symbol of hospitality and innovation. This commitment not only makes the site accessible to a wider audience but also positions it as a national and international benchmark, demonstrating that culture can—and must—be a right shared by all. The Valley of the Temples is not only a place of extraordinary archaeological beauty, but also a concrete example of how inclusivity and the removal of barriers can enhance and enrich the meaning of hospitality. Through these actions, the Park renews its role as guardian of the past, opening it up to the present and making it accessible for the future. |
