This creative journey is inspired by the underwater world and the local traditions of Sciacca, renowned for coral crafting and ceramic production, creating a dialogue between art, nature, and cultural heritage. With a multidisciplinary approach, the project explores the fragility and vitality of corals, once seen as inexhaustible resources, now threatened by climate change. Through works that combine ceramics, ink painting, jewelry, and a soundtrack dedicated to coral reproduction, Éclore becomes an immersive experience capable of raising public awareness about environmental and cultural issues. Among the planned works, one will be inspired by the art of Sicilian majolica, celebrating the shapes and hues of corals, paying homage to the local tradition. Using ink painting techniques, Chevalier creates works that capture the unique shades of coral red, influenced by the volcanic activity of the nearby island of Ferdinandea. Additionally, the artist will collaborate with a jeweler to design a talisman inspired by coral, symbolizing the connection between the past and the present.  Another innovative aspect of the project will be the soundtrack developed with musician Bololipsum: a musical composition based on recent scientific studies showing how sound waves can positively influence coral regeneration, offering a new dimension to the dialogue between art and science. Éclore is not only a celebration of marine biodiversity, but also a symbolic bridge between the tangible and intangible heritage of Sciacca. Through collaboration with ceramists, jewelers, and the local community, the project invites reflection on the reciprocal relationship between humans and nature, enhancing ancient traditions and placing them at the center of a contemporary dialogue. It is an opportunity to rediscover, through art, the vital force that binds what is visible and what is not, from the marine ecosystem to the heart of Sicilian traditions.

Do you know the artist?

Trained at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, Lise Chevalier is a visual artist and poet whose approach is characterized by the multiplicity of media, the use of traditional skills, and projects abroad. The artist creates an “inner mythology” in reciprocity with the living world. Megaliths accompany ferns, and a “vegetal genesis” is revealed in her inks, papers, and ceramics. Her artist books and installations invoke a ritual towards an uninterrupted dialogue with nature. For ten years, she has lived and worked in Sète, France, and has exhibited internationally: at the Auberge de France in Rhodes (GR), the Centro Cultural Metropolitano in Quito, the Institut français in Kyoto, Palazzo Sant'Elia in Palermo, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, and Parkingallery in Tehran. In France, her work has been shown at MO.CO. Panacée and the AL/MA gallery in Montpellier, the Paul Valéry Museum in Sète, and Topographie de l'art in Paris. Her artist books are published by Méridianes and Rencontres.

Committed to the visibility of women artists, ecology, and multicultural and international exchanges, she is the founder of the artist residency A.T.E.N.A in Sète. She is currently working on projects in Sicily, Japan, and the Dodecanese islands, where she creates using traditional skills and crafts.
