The morning will also feature a screening of a docufilm that recounts the human and professional stories of the two judges, with testimonies from family members such as Maria Falcone and Rita Borsellino, anti-mafia magistrates like Leonardo Guarnotta, the president of the Maxi Trial and former Senate President Pietro Grasso, prosecutor Giuseppe Ayala, as well as colleagues and journalists.
The day will conclude with the stage performance of “The Last Summer”, a powerful theatrical piece by Claudio Fava, starring Simone Luglio as Giovanni Falcone and Giovanni Santangelo as Paolo Borsellino, directed by Chiara Callegari. The show has already been performed across Italy, abroad, and even at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
The event was strongly desired by the president of Fondazione Agrigento 2025, Maria Teresa Cucinotta, and will be attended by civil and military authorities, law enforcement, local mayors, and leaders of the judiciary from Palermo and Agrigento. The families of the two judges and the slain bodyguards from the Capaci and Via D’Amelio attacks have also been invited.
Curated by journalists Franco Nuccio and Francesco Nicastro, the exhibition was first launched in 2012 in Palermo by then-President Giorgio Napolitano. Since then, it has been hosted in numerous institutions including the Italian Chamber of Deputies, the European Parliament, and the OSCE headquarters in Vienna. It has been visited by thousands of students across Italy, thanks to partnerships with the Ministry of Education, the Sicilian Region, the Regional School Office, and the Forensic Movement.
